Tune-Yards have lined up a US tour titled The Ones That Love You, and it is a club run rather than a theatre one. The Oakland band open at Outset in Chicago on 5 November and finish at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on 18 November, with the pop duo Rituals of Mine opening every night.
The nine dates in between are mostly mid-sized rooms in cities that rarely get the first leg of anything: Whirling Tiger in Louisville on the seventh, the Woodward Theater in Cincinnati on the eighth, Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids on the tenth and the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland on the eleventh.
The back half of the run goes further off the usual routing. Tune-Yards play the Homer Center for the Arts in Homer, New York on the fourteenth, 3S Artspace in Portsmouth on the fifteenth and Space Ballroom in Hamden, Connecticut on the sixteenth before the Boston finish.
This spring the band wrote and released the score for I Love Boosters, Boots Riley's comedy-crime film. It is their second score for Riley, following their work on his 2018 debut Sorry to Bother You, and the relationship has now outlasted most director and composer pairings at that scale.
Pitchfork, which published the dates, appended a correction to its own story: an earlier version had said the tour was focused only on the I Love Boosters score. It is a general tour, which matters for anyone deciding whether to buy on the strength of the film.
