Singer Tweet shares videos for Love Again and Toot Toot from her new album

Tweet has put out two videos on the same day, and both songs are older than the album they are attached to. The clips for Love Again and Toot Toot arrive as she builds towards Memoirs Of A Southern Hummingbird, which would be her first album since 2016's Charlene.

Love Again is the odder of the two. The song has been circulating among R&B and soul listeners since at least 2008, when it was set for Love, Tweet, a third album that was shelved. The video keeps things plain: she sits at the centre of a room draped in ivory curtains, in a black minidress with white stringed detail, multicolour swirled tights and chunky bracelets, and the performance is all hesitation about whether to trust anyone again.

Toot Toot has a history of its own. It was originally written for It's Me Again, her second album, in 2005, and it resurfaced last year as a visualizer shot in a decorated living room. The new version takes her outside and puts her in a Buick convertible, in a baseball cap and an orange tulle dress, driving away from a relationship that reads well on paper and carries too much trouble.

The lyric is blunt about it. "I want more of ya," she sings, "but you keep raisin' hell."

So the album, whenever it lands, is partly a rescue operation: two songs written twenty and eighteen years ago that never got a proper release, brought back with visuals rather than left in the vault. SoulBounce, which covered both clips, says the only thing still missing is a date.

No date has been announced. Memoirs Of A Southern Hummingbird has no confirmed tracklist either, though Toot Toot has been described as the lead single since it appeared. It is tracked on the release calendar with the rest of this autumn's unscheduled records.
