Tyga was asked in an interview with Vibe how he feels about people objecting to his use of artificial intelligence, and gave a short answer. If you like it you like it, if you do not you do not, he said, and he does not care.
The record in question is $TARFACE, his 1980s-styled album released on 31 July 2026. He confirmed that AI shaped parts of its retro sound, naming the synths and a guitar solo specifically, while maintaining that he wrote the album and recorded every vocal himself. AI was used as a tool, in his framing.
His defence is historical. He compared the current distaste for AI to the scepticism that met Auto-Tune in the 2000s, arguing that artists who are serious about the work adopt new technology rather than resisting it.
He was not the only rapper making disclosures that week. On 7 August, Fenix Flexin of Shoreline Mafia admitted that his viral hit RUBBERZ was made using the AI platform Treblo. He had danced around the accusations on Instagram until Treblo released a tool that could detect its own output and it returned a very likely verdict on the track. RUBBERZ peaked at number 58 on the Hot 100, which made it the first fully AI-generated song to chart there.
Ye has gone further and is now facing legal action over auto-generated vocals. An anonymous producer suing as John Doe is seeking $220,000 for uncompensated work across Vultures 2 and Bully, saying he created over 13 custom AI voice models and more than 400 vocal generations, and recorded his own voice for use. Ye's team had previously said Bully would carry no AI at all.
The timing puts a working rapper on the opposite side of an argument his own industry is litigating, with labels and rights bodies suing AI music companies. Pitchfork later gave $TARFACE a 0.0 review, and Tyga answered with a joke about the devil, and the record missed the chart with under 2,000 units sold. More is on our hip-hop hub.
