Universal, Sony and Warner back music AI firm Stability AI with $76 million

The three majors join Stability AI's Series B round days after its Stable Audio 3.0 launch.

Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group and Warner Music Group have all joined a $76 million Series B funding round for Stability AI, the generative AI company behind the Stable Audio product line, taking equity stakes alongside a wider mix of investors.

Other participants in the round include gaming giant Electronic Arts, AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures, along with repeat backers Coatue, Greycroft, Kadmos Capital, Sean Parker and Eric Schmidt, all investing for a second consecutive round.

Universal and Warner had already signed standalone strategic partnerships with Stability AI before this round, UMG in October 2025 and Warner Music in November 2025, both aimed at co-developing what the companies called responsibly trained generative AI tools. This Series B extends that relationship into a direct ownership stake for all three majors, including Sony Music, which had not previously announced its own separate deal with the company.

The funding round follows Stability's launch of Stable Audio 3.0, a family of music models trained on licensed data, which artists can now use through a DAW plugin or directly at StableAudio.com. It brings Stability AI's total funding under CEO Prem Akkaraju to $232 million since he joined the company in 2024.

Stability said the new capital will fund its creative-production product suite, deepen its applied research work and expand its professional-services arm. "This unmatched group of investors is an affirmation of our vision where generative AI empowers every producer, musician, and storyteller," Akkaraju said.

Alongside the funding, Coatue co-founder Thomas Laffont has joined Stability AI's board, joining a group that already includes filmmaker James Cameron, Sean Parker and Greycroft managing partner Dana Settle alongside Akkaraju himself.

The investment lands even as Stability AI continues to face copyright litigation elsewhere in its business, a backdrop that makes its emphasis on licensed training data central to how it is courting label partners directly rather than working around them.
