A 15-minute video has surfaced showing Kodak Black surrendering to police in Broward County, Florida in May, stepping out of an SUV before officers patted him down and placed him in handcuffs. The footage relates to a fleeing-police charge tied to a February 27 incident, in which a warrant says Kodak "did have knowledge that he had been ordered to stop" by police yet fled from deputies, and separately obstructed an officer "in the lawful execution of his legal duties."
The arrest also came amid separate drug trafficking charges, after police said they found MDMA in his car during a stop; Kodak pleaded not guilty. His bond on the trafficking charge was set at $75,000, and he has since been released pending trial on the fleeing charge as well.
His attorney, Bradford Cohen, called the timing a pattern he has seen before, saying investigations that drag on for five or six months tend to be followed by further arrests. "At this point I think everyone agrees that Kodak is consistently being targeted," Cohen said.
In July, an Orange County judge released Kodak from all bail requirements after prosecutors missed their 60-day deadline to file formal charges on the MDMA trafficking allegation.
The hip-hop artist's history with law enforcement has repeatedly overshadowed his music career, with each new arrest drawing more attention than his recent releases.
