Warped Tour opened its 2026 run in Long Beach in late July, the second year of a revival that has turned a two-month bus tour into five strategically placed dates. After Long Beach come Montreal, Mexico City, Orlando and Washington DC, with the EDM promoter Insomniac now a partner.
Founder Kevin Lyman said he had been nervous about the first comeback show, knowing he had one shot. Bigger stages, video and lights were a given, but the job was to keep it feeling like Warped Tour between the performances: the merch tents, the sponsorship booths, the skate ramps and the daily surprises. He called it mission accomplished, allowing that people closer to his own age found their feet hurt.
The proof he offers is a sales figure. When 2026 tickets went back on sale, 50 percent of buyers committed without knowing a single band on the bill. Jimmy Eat World is doing the 25th anniversary of Bleed American at the festival this year, and Lyman singled out Rise Against's set the previous year as the emotional high point, with half the crowd seeing them for the first time.
Keeping the audience warm between annual dates has meant year-round events. In January the team ran a downtown Long Beach show with the band Holy Wars, plus events in Orlando, Mexico City, Montreal and a fraternity house backyard in Virginia, alongside canned food drives, blood drives and voter registration. Lyman rejects the usual framing of monetising the superfan and asks instead how to reward them.
His booking is not hands-on any more. Amanda Phelan books the festival and deals with the agents; his part is asking which bands other bands and young people are talking about, and calling independent promoters he has worked with for years.
He traces the whole approach back to Goldenvoice in the 1980s, where Gary Tovar's rebellious streak rubbed off on him, and to 12 years working Los Angeles clubs 320 nights a year. "I've been a disruptor, and the disruption I've caused has attracted enough people," he said. "Warped is a great niche."
The economics are the real question for him now. A third of the people going to Warped had never been to a festival or a concert before, so price point decides whether it stays the entry point it once was. We have also covered the Orlando lineup additions, and another Californian punk weekend in the 17th Mosswood Meltdown. More bills sit in the festival tracker and on the rock hub.
