Weakened Friends, a New England indie rock band, have announced a double live album, Live From Hell, recorded at The Sinclair in Boston, Massachusetts, The Line of Best Fit reported August 17. It arrives September 25 as a limited pressing sold exclusively through independent record shops, bypassing the band's own webstore and their live shows.
Guitarist and vocalist Sonia Sturino said in a statement that the release was meant to stand apart from a culture built around online content: "We're living in a world where 'content' is prioritised over art, where AI is rotting brains and boiling oceans." "We're so sick of it, so this release needed to be as far removed from that narrative as possible," she added. Sturino said the band wanted to create something special and tangible for fans while supporting the independent record shops that have backed artists like them for decades.
The band also shared a live video for "Lightspeed," shot by Justin Labaddie and Katya Veber and edited by Bob Sweeney.
In September, Weakened Friends join The Menzingers and Hot Water Music for a US tour that opens in San Antonio, Texas on September 25 and runs through Brooklyn, New York on November 22, with stops including Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston. No UK dates are included in the run.
Live From Hell comes out via Don Giovanni Records. The album joins the release calendar and the tour is tracked on the tour guide, adding to a busy year of indie releases.
