Manchester four-piece Westside Cowboy released a new song, "Dobro," on August 7, the third single from their debut album, It Goes On, out August 21 via Island. The band described the track collectively as "our strut song, over two minutes in length but just under three," a song they said could be about a younger self waiting on a return, or just about a strange guitar.
"Dobro" follows lead single "Kick Stones (The Boys)" and second single "Pin Up Boys," both released with music videos and both named Under the Radar Songs of the Week, alongside an earlier single, "Can't See," which made the same list last November. The band is Reuben Haycocks on guitar and vocals, James Bradbury on guitar and vocals, Aoife Anson O'Connell on bass and vocals, and Paddy Murphy on drums and vocals; they recorded the album at Greenmount Studios in Leeds with producer Loren Humphrey, known for his work with Geese, Cameron Winter and Wunderhorse.
The band has built momentum by supporting Geese and Black Country, New Road on tour.
Of the album, the band said: "We want to make songs that are lean and imperfect," aiming for "young music made by some young(ish) people" rather than the "sprawling triple album with horns and string sections" they say can wait for later.
It Goes On arrives August 21, joining the rest of the month's new rock and indie full lengths on the release calendar.
