Philadelphia rapper Young Chris returns with the three-track EP Brief Intermission

Young Chris put out a new EP called Brief Intermission on Friday, Aug. 28. The Philadelphia rapper kept the release short at three songs, which is what the title promises, and delivered it without the long rollout that usually surrounds a full album.

The tracklist runs Back In That Mode, One Call Away and Alo & Chanely. HotNewHipHop, which covered the release, described the production across the three cuts as hard and focused, and said Young Chris uses the space to reassert the flow that made his name.

That name was built alongside Neef Buck in Young Gunz and inside the wider State Property crew, the Philadelphia collective that put the city on the map in the early 2000s. Young Chris has kept repping Philadelphia in his verses since, and the new EP does nothing to change that.

Three tracks is a deliberate scale. A short release gives an established rapper a way to stay in rotation between longer projects, and it lands on streaming without the promotional machinery a full-length demands. Where it fits alongside the rest of the autumn schedule is tracked on the release calendar.

Early response has been modest rather than loud. HotNewHipHop filed the project under hip-hop and carried a single reader review scoring it 3.00 out of 5 at the time of writing, which is the kind of quiet reception a between-albums EP tends to get.
