Carly Rae Jepsen is returning to Broadway, this time as a songwriter rather than a performer, on a stage musical adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You developed with Lena Dunham. According to Variety, the production is set to open next year, with first previews scheduled for exactly a year out from the announcement: August 17, 2027.

Dunham, the creator and star of Girls, is adapting the book alongside playwright Jessica Huang, while Jepsen is co-writing the show's songs with Ethan Gruska, a frequent collaborator of Phoebe Bridgers. Christopher Wheeldon, who won a Tony for MJ The Musical, is directing, and fellow Tony winner Tom Kitt will handle arrangements, orchestrations and music supervision.

Casting and a theater have not been announced, leaving several of the production's key details still to be filled in before those first previews arrive a year from now.

Jepsen's history on Broadway goes back to 2014, when she made her debut in the title role of Cinderella just as "Call Me Maybe" was still in heavy rotation and she was finishing work on her 2015 pop album E-MO-TION, a run that makes this new project less a detour than a return to a stage she has stood on before.

The musical arrives alongside a busy stretch for Jepsen's recording career. Her new double album, Day And Night, is due next month via Interscope and Schoolboy, and advance singles "On Wires," "After All" and "Don't Leave Me On The Dance Floor" have already been released ahead of it, giving her two very different projects moving forward on parallel tracks.
