DJ LeeLee, aged five, awaits a Guinness ruling on her festival DJ set

The kindergartner played 51 minutes at Awaken Music Festival in Utah.

DJ LeeLee, a five-year-old kindergartner from the Salt Lake City area, played a festival set in Utah this month and is now waiting on Guinness World Records to decide whether it makes her the youngest female DJ to perform at a music festival.

She played Awaken Music Festival on August 15, delivering an unaided set that ran a little over 51 minutes and included Swedish House Mafia's Don't You Worry Child and Zedd's Beautiful Now. Her parents, Ashley and Andrew Lovell, describe the rig she used: a Pioneer DJ XDJ-AZ controller, pediatric-approved earplugs, a 3D-printed sun shield for the screen and a 99-cent cat-themed folder above it to block the rest of the glare.

Guinness approved the family's application in early July, which cleared the way for the attempt. Documentation went in for review on August 25, and the parents say a decision could take up to 12 weeks.

The margin is not close. If it is verified, LeeLee would take the record from DJ Rinoka of Tokyo, who set the current mark in 2024 at 6 years and 351 days old. LeeLee performed at 5 years and 157 days, more than a year and a half younger.

"My favorite part was dancing," she told EDM.com. "My other favorite part was when I didn't give up." That is the whole of her comment on the set.

This is not her first entry in a record book. RecordSetter, one of the larger alternative record-keeping organisations, recently confirmed that LeeLee and her regular collaborator CXRTER, who is seven, hold the record for the youngest back-to-back DJ duo by combined age. They perform together as DJ Faculty Lounge, and played their elementary school's back-to-school night in front of roughly 700 people two days after the festival.

Her family says the next target is the Guinness record for the youngest female DJ to perform at a club, also held by DJ Rinoka, who played a 70-minute set at Solfa in Nakameguro in July 2023. The festival appearance is logged on the festival tracker, and Utah has become a busier stop for electronic events lately, with Breakaway adding a Salt Lake City edition.
