Aubory Bugg has booked 20 dates across North America for early 2027, her first proper tour behind a debut album released only last week. Exclaim reports the run, which opens on 3 February at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia and closes on 6 March at The Basement in Nashville, the city the Missouri-raised songwriter now works out of.
The record is called i think i had something once, lower case and unpunctuated, and the routing is built to serve it rather than to chase a market. Between Decatur and Nashville the tour takes in Austin, Denton, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Columbus, Boston, Brooklyn, Washington, Carrboro and two Canadian stops.
Those Canadian dates are her first, and they are modest by design: Fox Cabaret in Vancouver on 16 February, then a return at the end of the month for Monarch Tavern in Toronto on 27 February, with American shows on either side.
The venue list is the most informative part of the announcement. Radio/East and Rubber Gloves in Texas, Valley Bar in Phoenix, Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles, Cafe du Nord in San Francisco, Polaris Hall in Portland, Barboza in Seattle, Kilby Court in Salt Lake City, Goosetown Tavern in Denver, 7th St. Entry in Minneapolis, Schubas in Chicago, Rumba Cafe in Columbus, The Red Room at Cafe 939 in Boston, Baby's All Right in Brooklyn, DC9 in Washington and Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. Every one of those is a room a first-album folk act can actually fill, and several of them are the specific small stages a city's promoters use to find out whether somebody is worth a bigger booking next time.
The pacing is as telling as the map. Twenty shows in 32 days with the Pacific Northwest and the Canadian border crossed twice is a working tour, not a showcase run, and it is being announced nearly five months out to give a new record time to travel ahead of it.
Bugg came up through St. Louis before moving to Nashville, and the folk singer-songwriter description she works under covers a wide field at the moment. What separates the acts in it is usually the touring rather than the records: an artist who can hold a 150-capacity room in fifteen cities has a career, and one who cannot has a release.
