Blondshell shares new song "Fur Elise," the closing track on album "Violins"

Blondshell, the project of Los Angeles songwriter Sabrina Teitelbaum, released "Fur Elise" on August 18, the closing track from her third album, Violins, due September 25 via Partisan Records. The song takes its title from the classical piano piece and builds around the image of walking down the aisle at a wedding without knowing what should be playing. "You don't even know where to start," she said of the feeling behind the song. "You're picking the wrong song."

Where her earlier work centered on romantic relationships, Violins moves toward different territory across its eleven tracks, working through troubled friendships, religion, the body and the slow process of healing. Teitelbaum described the record as carrying more weight than what came before it: "This record's heavy in a way. My main goal with this record was to have songs that hit hard."

The album is produced by Yves Rothman, her collaborator across all three of her records, mixed by Beatriz Artola and mastered by Emily Lazar, with lyrical touchstones that include Leonard Cohen, Pavement, Gang of Four, Teenage Fanclub, The Go-Betweens and Sade. Teitelbaum credited her working relationship with Rothman for a shift in how she approached the songwriting this time, saying she no longer felt like she was "walking in the dark" the way she once did.

"Fur Elise" follows earlier singles "Heart Has To Work So Hard" and the album's title track, and Blondshell has also shared a shorter take on the same song through a separate report the same week. She tours North America, the UK and Europe later this year, including her biggest London headline show to date at the Roundhouse on December 15.

Violins arrives as Teitelbaum's third album in four years, following her 2023 self-titled debut and last year's If You Asked For A Picture. The album's release on September 25 will close out a rollout built entirely around singles rather than a single advance preview of the record as a whole.
