Bonobo and Joy Crookes released a new track, "Always On Your Side," DIY reported on August 4. It is the second preview of Bonobo's coming album, "Distance In Static," following last month's "Fire on the Water," which featured Arooj Aftab.
"Distance In Static" is due September 11 via Ninja Tune and runs 14 tracks: "Dawn," "Cycles," "Fire on the Water" with Arooj Aftab, "Drift," "Talk to Me" with Nicole Miglis, "Uncasually," "Always on Your Side" with Joy Crookes, "Youth's Fountain" with Nilufer Yanya, "Shokoufeh," "Can't You See" with Aanya Martin, "ID700," "Me and You," "Equinoctial" with Ichiko Aoba and "Mercury" with Kanako Yamamoto. DIY said the record spans English, Urdu and Japanese lyrics and draws on historic Iranian samples and guzheng recordings.
Crookes' vocal on "Always On Your Side" follows her 2025 album, "Juniper," and marks her first new material since that release.
DIY described the new song as a soothing counterpoint to the more club-focused cuts expected elsewhere on the album, pairing Bonobo's pared-back production with Crookes' vocal. The pair's video for the track features both artists.
The release lands in the release calendar alongside the rest of our electronic coverage.
