MIRROR WORLD, a new two-day festival in Brussels, has named the first acts for its opening edition, and the bill leans hard on the roster of Uganda's Nyege Nyege Tapes. Kampire is on it, alongside DJ Travella and Jay Mitta. The Quietus reported the announcement on 19 August 2026.
The festival is a sister event to Nyege Nyege Festival, which is why so much of the first wave comes from the same orbit. The Quietus listed Kampire, DJ Travella, Serokolo 7, De Schuurman, Arsenal Mikebe, Jay Mitta, HHY & The Kampala Unit and Authentically Plastic among the label-connected names.
HHY & The Kampala Unit appear with a Brussels-based brass ensemble rather than on their own. Outside the Nyege Nyege names, the first wave carries Mohammad Syfkhan, D'Leesa, Top Klas and the Congolese guitarist Dizzy Mandjeku, whom The Quietus described as a veteran.
Music is not the whole of the programme. MIRROR WORLD is also running exhibitions and screenings, among them a photography display by Ian Wainaina marking ten years of Nyege Nyege Festival. That anniversary is the thread holding the first edition together.
Kampire is the name most likely to be familiar outside Belgium. The Quietus has called her one of East Africa's best contemporary DJs, and her compilation A Dancefloor In Ndola collected pan-African pop from the 1980s, music the site noted had irritated her as a child. She played Dekmantel in Amsterdam in 2022 on a weekend the same writer covered.
The autumn's other electronic bills are in the festival tracker, including Le Guess Who?'s 20th anniversary edition in Utrecht and Beyond The Music's second wave in Salford.
Programming is split between two Brussels venues, Studio Citygate and La Fabriek, and the festival opens on 25 September and runs through the 26th. The Quietus called this a first wave, which leaves room for more names before then.
