Clinic set their tenth album Wild In The Streets for October 30

Clinic have announced their tenth album. Wild In The Streets arrives October 30 through Domino Records, the label the Liverpool band have called home for years.

The stated aim is to move away from what listeners expect of them, and the way they have gone about it is by pulling in sounds that do not obviously belong together and folding them into their left-field psych-pop.

Singer Ade Blackburn named the most surprising of those in a press note. "Something we've got into more recently is exotica, especially the colourful percussion," he said, pointing at Martin Denny and Les Baxter and arguing that music filed as easy listening has some very strange undercurrents running through it.

The rest of the list runs wider: dub reggae, Cabaret Voltaire, and a lot of early rock and roll, which Blackburn said the band went to for immediacy. He also described a specific editing habit that came out of it. On several songs they wanted extra propulsion, so they would cut a whole verse to push the track along.

The first single, "You And I," is out now, an understated and repetitive thing that works by staying in your head rather than by making a case. More rock release dates sit on the release calendar.
