Disgusting Sisters release Not Cool from their first album

Disgusting Sisters have released Not Cool, the newest single from their debut album Skin & Blisters, which arrives on 30 October through Source Records. It is a late preview from a record that has been trailed steadily all year.

The song is older than everything around it. The duo say Not Cool was the first thing they ever wrote as Disgusting Sisters, which is why they describe it as feeling like the beginning of everything, and why it has ended up on a debut album rather than being left behind.

The subject is straightforward. "It is a song inspired by an ex boyfriend," they said, adding that they would leave listeners to decide whether he is cool or not, which is roughly the level of ceremony the track invites.

It follows a long run of singles: Sorry Mister, Weirdo Magnet, Killing It, TGIF and Calvin Klein have all come out ahead of it. That is five songs in public before the album, which is a lot for a debut and suggests a label content to build slowly.

Their stated reference points span The Strokes and Candy Crush, which is less a joke than an accurate description of a certain strand of current British guitar pop: New York garage rock structures with the texture of a phone game.

Two duos releasing on the same weekend hardly makes a trend, but the indie release schedule has been dense with them, including punk duo the Garden's album Bootleg and Chinese American Bear returning with Dance Dance Dance. The October date is on the release calendar.
