Earth, Wind & Fire postpones San Francisco concert with Lionel Richie

Earth, Wind & Fire postponed its concert with Lionel Richie at San Francisco's Chase Center, telling fans in a social media statement the cancellation was "due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band," the Los Angeles Times reported.

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department confirmed to the Times that personnel were dispatched at 5:30 p.m. to Chase Center for a medical emergency, and that one person was transported to a hospital by private ambulance. The person's identity was not disclosed, though TMZ reported the department responded to a "cardiac incident."

The band said it would reschedule the show for a later date and that existing tickets would remain valid. "We sincerely apologize for the unexpected change and appreciate everyone's understanding," the band wrote.

The postponed show was part of Earth, Wind & Fire and Richie's joint "Sing a Song All Night Long" tour, a run of R&B and soul shows announced through Live Nation in January. The tour otherwise continues this weekend at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert before the pair play the Intuit Dome in Inglewood on Sunday, wrapping August 14 at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. It's not the only health scare shadowing the tour. Richie postponed two stops in June after feeling dizzy onstage in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was hospitalized as a precaution, before later telling fans he was doing well. And the band's longtime drummer, John Paris, was placed in an induced coma after his own hospitalization that same week.
