El Malilla put the American leg of his Tu Maliante Bebe tour back on the calendar in summer 2026, a year after pulling it. The Mexican singer, who made history at Coachella as the first reggaeton Mexa act on the bill, had planned his first US tour for the previous summer and cancelled it.
His reason was immigration enforcement. Speaking from his home in Valle de Chalco, on the edge of Mexico City, he said that with what was happening to Mexicans and immigrants, the problem being ICE, he decided to pause rather than expose his fans to that kind of situation. Bringing the tour to the United States mattered to him, he said, but it had to be done safely.
The rescheduled run is 19 shows, opening on 24 July in Palm Springs and reaching the Novo in Los Angeles the next night. That second date is the one he singled out as the biggest room of the tour, and he framed the city as somewhere that had adopted him.
Born Fernando Hernandez Flores, he has pushed reggaeton out of Mexico and into the wider Latin mainstream, adding Mexican slang and swagger on tracks including B de Bellako, Mami Tu and Balenciaga, the last with the corrido singer Luis R Conriquez. Collaborations with the Puerto Rican pair Jowell y Randy and with J Balvin followed.
His next album took a year and a half. He described it as more experimental and more professional work from a 26-year-old, and said he wrote a bolero for the first time, researching the form by listening to Luis Miguel and Jose Jose. He named the Weeknd and Justin Bieber as artists he would want to work with, and DJ Blass, Nengo Flow and De La Ghetto on the Latin side.
He was also clear about what the tour is for. Fans in Chicago had held up signs naming the parts of Mexico they came from, including his own State of Mexico, and representing those roots is the point.
