Fear Factory release Roboticist, their first single with singer Milo Silvestro

The band timed it to the moment Skynet becomes self-aware in Terminator lore, and no album is announced yet.

Fear Factory have released "Roboticist," the first new song recorded with singer Milo Silvestro, nearly three and a half years after he joined the band.

The release day was chosen rather than convenient. In Terminator lore Skynet becomes self-aware on August 29 at 2:14am, and the band put the track out at exactly that moment, which is about as Fear Factory a reason to release a song on a Saturday as there could be.

Metal Injection writes that Silvestro brings the ferocity and grit he has been showing live crowds for some time onto the record, over the band's signature mechanically driven rhythm section, with some melody and a few turns that are not where the arrangement seems to be heading.

Guitarist Dino Cazares framed it as a starting point rather than a one-off. "The future isn't coming; it's already here," he said, calling "Roboticist" the next evolution of the band and the beginning of a new era.

No album has been announced to go with it. The touring is booked, though: they co-headline the Soul Of A New War Machine tour with Mushroomhead from October 13 in New Haven through late November, then run the Cybernetic Domination tour with Darkest Hour and Brotality from November 13.

The single is logged on the release calendar with the rest of an unusually busy metal autumn, which also has Corrosion of Conformity and The Sword on a US run and Mastodon's ninth album out.
