Guns N' Roses and Chris Stapleton traded guest spots at their Canada concerts

Guns N' Roses and Chris Stapleton traded stage appearances at back-to-back shows in Toronto this week, Loudwire reported on August 7. The two acts played Rogers Stadium on consecutive nights, Guns N' Roses on Wednesday, August 5, and Stapleton the following evening.

During Guns N' Roses's set, Stapleton joined the band for a duet with Axl Rose on Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door. The next night, Stapleton introduced the Guns N' Roses song Patience as one of his favorites partway through his own set; he began playing it solo, said it "didn't feel right," and then Slash and Duff McKagan walked out to play the acoustic song alongside him. "This feels better," Stapleton told the crowd.

The two acts have crossed paths before: Stapleton opened for Guns N' Roses on their 2016 reunion tour, and told Rolling Stone that meeting Rose backstage was "cool." "He was great. Very polite and gracious and we got to say hi for a few minutes," Stapleton said, recalling that the two also traded notes on vocal stamina and touring, and briefly discussed Rose's own work with AC/DC.

Slash later called Stapleton out of the blue to ask him to sing on his 2024 solo blues covers album, Orgy of the Damned, resulting in a cover of Fleetwood Mac's Oh Well. "I had to get his number and cold-call him and he was really gracious about it," Slash told Rolling Stone, calling it "one of the best ideas I've had in recent memory."
