Headie One has released MMM, a 10-track mixtape that arrived on 28 August and grew directly out of the studio sessions he opened up to fans earlier in the year. He called those sessions Monday Music Marathon, worked through them at speed, and the tape takes its name and its shape from them.

The guest list is short and pointed. Nemzzz, the Manchester rapper who has spent the past two years moving from bedroom uploads to festival stages, appears on Open Top. Turbo turns up on Stability, Luciano on Wednesday Play, and Sampha, a Mercury Prize winner whose voice rarely lands on a drill record, closes the tape on Close.

The sequence runs Monday Marathon, Open Top, Stability, Turnt To A Target, One Thousand Roses, Wednesday Play, Amazing Me, Thank God For The 40, What You Wanted and Close. Turnt To A Target went out as a single ahead of the release and carries the phrase that runs through the whole project.

MMM is his first full project since The Last One in 2024, and it finds him pushing a drill-rooted sound out in several directions at once rather than settling into one. That has been the pattern of a decade in hip-hop for him: enough consistency to stay on the radar, enough movement not to get filed away.

Opening the studio door was the risk here. Sessions run in public tend to produce either a stunt or a record, and MMM lands as the second, ten tracks with a clear logic to their order rather than a dump of whatever the cameras caught.

Nemzzz has had a busy stretch of his own, having been named alongside Jorja Smith and Beabadoobee for Spotify's Hometown live series. MMM is out now and logged on the release calendar.
