Singer Jorja Smith headlines Spotify's new "Hometown" series with Nemzzz and Beabadoobee

Spotify announced a new live series called Hometown on August 18, sending three artists back to the places where they began making music for one-night-only shows. Jorja Smith opens the run in her hometown of Walsall on September 6, Nemzzz plays Manchester on September 12, and Beabadoobee closes the series in London on September 17. Selected top listeners of each artist will be invited to attend in person, with no public ticket sale, and Spotify will release concert films from each show afterward.

All three dates line up with new album campaigns. Smith releases her third record, What Are The Odds, on August 21, days after the Hometown series is announced; Nemzzz follows with Locked In on September 4; and Beabadoobee's album Pylon arrives September 18, the day after her Hometown show. "Walsall is where I first started writing and recording music as a teenager," Smith said of her hometown date. "It's where my love of music began."

Nemzzz, one of the country's highest-streaming rappers, described his Manchester show as an extension of how he already presents himself. "I've always made a point of celebrating Manchester and representing where I'm from," he said, "so getting to do Hometown with Spotify feels like a natural extension of that." Beabadoobee, who grew up in West London, echoed the sentiment about her own London date, adding that Spotify is also funding community work tied to each artist's stop, including a donation to youth group The Avenues in her case.

Smith's Hometown date arrives during an especially packed stretch for her: she is also set to co-headline All Points East in London with Tems the same week her new album lands. Beabadoobee, meanwhile, previewed the Pylon title track in a stripped-back set at Red Rocks earlier this month and will follow the album with her first arena headline tour, Powerlines, running through Glasgow, Cardiff, Manchester and London in November.

Spotify has not said whether Hometown will continue beyond these three shows or become an ongoing series. For now, the format stays tied to this September's run of homecoming dates.
