Jack Osbourne says the Ozzy Osbourne film will not be an art house biopic

Jack Osbourne says the film about his father, Ozzy Osbourne, is further along than it looks, and that the people making it are being pushed towards a version built for fans.

Speaking to E! News, he said the script is done and the team is now going out to directors. He also said an actor is in mind to play Ozzy Osbourne, though he would not name them, adding only that conversations had been had and that it would be good if it worked out.

His stated position on the tone of the film was direct. Jack said his mantra in meetings is to give the fans what they want, and that the film cannot be an artsy, esoteric biopic, because that is not what the audience his father wrote and toured for is looking for.

Sony is making the picture, with Sharon Osbourne attached as a producer. The project predates Ozzy's death: in 2021 the singer announced that Lee Hall was writing it, and it was described then as a chronicle of his life and of the marriage at the centre of it. Sharon said at the time that the relationship had been wild and dangerous but held together by the two of them.

Ozzy Osbourne died last year at 76, and Jack has since taken on more of the family business, which has included work on an AI avatar of his father alongside the film. Sharon Osbourne has also said that an Ozzfest return in 2027 is under discussion.

The film has no director, cast or release date confirmed. For a metal and rock figure whose life has already been told in reality television, a stage show and several books, the open question is less what happened than which version of it reaches the screen.
