Beyonce has released a four-track remix pack for her song Morning Dew (Donk), including a version featuring a guest verse from Jay-Z, his first original rap verse in four years, per NME, since his 2022 appearance on DJ Khaled's God Did. On the remix, Jay-Z raps about his marriage to Beyonce, including the line "Bitch so bad, I had to give her my last name."
The remix samples Soulja Boy's Donk and the Isley Brothers' Between the Sheets, and interpolates Sheck Wes' Mo Bamba over a Goodie Mob sample carried from the original version, according to Pitchfork and SoulBounce. The four-song pack also includes a Donk Mix with added guitar, strings and heavier drums, and an acoustic version dubbed "4:44" for its 40-second-longer runtime, a nod to Jay-Z's own 2017 album.
Morning Dew (Donk) first surprised fans on July 4 as Beyonce's first new song in two years, co-written with Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon and produced by Beyonce and Pharrell. It dates from sessions for her 2006 album B'Day, due a 20th anniversary reissue next month around Beyonce's September 4 birthday, which also happens to be the album's original release date.
The remix follows Beyonce and Jay-Z's joint appearances during his three-night Yankee Stadium residency in New York, where she joined him onstage for Can't Knock The Hustle on the opening night and Drunk In Love on the last. Jay-Z continues that run of big shows with two nights at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 4 and 5, followed by Paris' Stade de France on September 10 and two dates at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium in October.
Despite the joint activity, Jay-Z has downplayed talk of a follow-up to 4:44; collaborator Cash Cobain told Variety the rapper said he is "absolutely not dropping an album" any time soon. He does have one new song coming: a long-awaited pairing with Eminem and Rakim, their first collaboration in 25 years, due August 28 on Rakim's new album. Beyonce, meanwhile, is expected to eventually complete the trilogy that began with 2022's Renaissance and continued with 2024's Cowboy Carter as the long-rumored Act III, though no official details have been confirmed.
