JENNIE has released Fallen Angel, a short EP that follows last year's Ruby album and the run of solo concerts that came after it. The digital version carries three songs: the title track, "HEAVEN" and "Less Than A Lover."
Clash, which covered the release, framed the record as JENNIE turning her focus inward, moving between wistful and introspective without much in the way of a big single. It is a portrait of the singer at her most reflective rather than a play for the charts, and at three tracks it is deliberately small.
Buyers of the physical edition get more. The CD adds three exclusive songs, "sweettooth," "lockitdown" and "Face," which do not appear on the digital release at all. That split between formats has become a normal part of K-pop release strategy, and it turns the CD into something other than a souvenir.
The context is a solo career that has moved fast. Ruby arrived last year and was followed by the biggest headline shows JENNIE has played on her own, away from BLACKPINK. Fallen Angel is the first release since that stretch, and its scale suggests a deliberate step back from the size of what preceded it rather than an attempt to top it.
The EP is filed under pop, and its date joins the rest of the schedule on the release calendar. JENNIE had announced Fallen Angel a week earlier, and the release lands in a busy season for K-pop records that also took in NCT 127's seventh studio album Blingy.
