Jim James of My Morning Jacket is releasing a new solo album, Wowed Out, this Friday via ATO, and has shared its third single, "Lost Child," alongside a music video directed by Joshua Shoemaker.

The song took shape around a shuffling beat and a piano sample from R&B singer Maxine Brown's 1964 single "Oh No Not My Baby," co-written by Carole King. James said hearing that record reminded him of pieces he had wanted to finish for years, and the two came together as he wrote "Lost Child."

James built the song around a theme that runs through the album: feeling lost in a world that is hard to make sense of. "A major theme in my life is feeling a little lost in a world I don't understand," he said, describing "Lost Child" as another song where he's "asking for help to try to make sense of it all."

"Lost Child" follows the album's first single, "Come Again," and its title track, "Wowed Out," both of which also arrived with their own videos, completing a three-single rollout ahead of Friday's release.

James produced Wowed Out himself, building it around old recordings he made with longtime friend and composer Brian Reitzell, known for his scores for Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides. The material sat unfinished for years, James said, until last year, when the songs finally "started flowing in a really beautiful way."

James has also framed the album as a kind of antidote to phone-driven distraction, hoping it pulls listeners back toward things that still genuinely move them. "We need to be wowed by what's actually real, like nature and love and music," he said of the album's intent.

Wowed Out follows My Morning Jacket's most recent studio album, 2025's is, which itself followed the band's 2021 self-titled record. The solo release adds another rock and indie album to the run of new music tracked on the release calendar this week.
