A federal judge has thrown out the remaining claims in the harassment lawsuit brought against Lizzo's touring company by Asha Daniels, a former wardrobe employee, closing a case that has followed the singer for close to three years.
US District Judge Fernando Aenlle-Rocha granted summary judgment on Tuesday, September 1, in favour of Big Grrrl Big Touring and the other remaining defendants. Daniels, who worked as a wardrobe designer on The Special Tour in 2023, had alleged sexual and racial harassment, disability discrimination and a hostile work environment. The judge found that some of the conduct she identified was inappropriate and unprofessional but did not meet the legal threshold for her harassment claims, and rejected the disability claims as well.
Lizzo herself had already been dismissed as an individual defendant in 2024, so this ruling clears what was left. Her attorney Melissa Glass told TMZ the decision was a total victory for the singer, her touring company and the other defendants.
Lizzo posted her own response to Instagram, where she has 11.2 million followers. "Today I am relieved to announce that I have won the case against me and my company Big Grrrl Touring," she wrote, saying she had prayed for the truth to come out and would keep fighting rather than settle.
Daniels' side is not finished. "We are disappointed by the Court's ruling," said her attorney Ron Zambrano, arguing that the court weighed evidence a jury should have seen and assessed individual incidents too narrowly instead of looking at their cumulative effect. He said his team is considering appropriate next steps.
A separate and larger case remains open. Three former dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, sued in 2023, and that suit is still pending after Lizzo won an earlier ruling dismissing the fat-shaming claims. She has said publicly she does not intend to settle it.
Employment claims brought by touring staff have become a recurring story in pop and rap alike; Megan Thee Stallion was ordered to trial in a former photographer's harassment and wage case last month.
