Julia Jacklin covered Sugar Ray's 1999 hit "Every Morning" for the Australian radio station Triple J, delivering a slightly more downtempo version than the original. Pitchfork posted the recording, noting Jacklin grew up on Mark McGrath and company's upbeat blend of alt-rock and pop.

"I've liked it since I was a little kid," Jacklin said of the track. "I love any way to connect with my younger self as much as I can. I feel like we were singing it together: me now, and her back then." She added that the song "makes me feel grateful to be alive," calling it a way to connect to the source of life itself.

The cover arrives about a month before Jacklin's next album, The Gem, out September 25 on her new label, 4AD. She named the record after a pub in Melbourne where she recorded it with her band.

A separate report on the same "Every Morning" cover is also on file, drawing on additional commentary about why the song's choice caught listeners off guard decades after its original run.
