Kany Garcia and Carin Leon reunite on the single El sombrero y la camisa

Kany Garcia and Carin Leon have made a second record together. El sombrero y la camisa arrives three years after Te lo agradezco, the 2023 song that first put the Puerto Rican songwriter and the Sonoran singer on the same track, and it finds both of them at a different point in their careers. The first collaboration set a high bar. Te lo agradezco turned into one of the biggest songs either of them has had, drawing millions of streams and dozens of international certifications, and it was nominated for song of the year at the 2024 Latin Grammys.

For Garcia, the reunion lands during a deliberately open phase. She released Puerta Abierta this year, her tenth studio album, and filled it with collaborations across scenes: Juan Luis Guerra, Rawayana, Nathy Peluso and Yuridia all appear on it.

The album's title works as a statement of method. Garcia has been widening the boundaries of her own writing and looking for musicians outside her immediate lane, and a second crossing into contemporary Mexican music sits naturally inside that stretch of work.

Leon has been doing the same thing from the other direction. The Sonoran singer built an identity inside Mexican regional music by moving between tradition and contemporary production, and he has carried that combination onto international stages rather than trading it away for them.

That has made him one of the most visible names in a generation of Mexican artists exporting the music without diluting it. Cross-scene pairings keep driving the format, as with Karol G bringing in Drake on AHI, and other Spanish-language singles keep landing, among them Paulina Goto's Cuidame de Mi.
