Rapper Young Miko says Kany García coming out was important to her

Young Miko has credited Kany García with helping her see queer representation in Latin music early in her career. The Puerto Rican rapper was asked by ELLE México about being treated as a queer role model herself, and answered by pointing at the artists who had gone first. Consequence carried the remarks on 26 August 2026.

"For me, it was super important when Kany García came out," she said, naming the fellow Puerto Rican singer as her example rather than accepting the label for herself.

The connection between the two ended up on record. In 2024 they worked together on 'En Esta Boca', a track from García's album GARCÍA that set the older singer's songwriting against Miko's urban sound.

Miko also talked about being on the other side of it now. She described meeting a 10-year-old backstage recently who had come to the concert with her two mothers, and said they told her how much it mattered to see someone like her. The encounter, she said, put her own position into perspective.

That awareness has made her more conscious of how she speaks in public, though she accepts that representing an entire community is impossible for any one artist. She is touring behind her third studio album, Do Not Disturb, which came out earlier this year.
