Rapper Kurupt says Eminem quietly paid for his rehab stay after learning the West Coast hip-hop veteran was battling alcohol addiction, XXL, HotNewHipHop and AllHipHop all reported on August 5, citing his August 3 appearance on SiriusXM's Sway in the Morning. Kurupt said the help followed a frightening health scare: multiple seizures that led to a medically induced coma lasting nearly three weeks.

Kurupt said Dr. Dre reached out first, offering encouragement rather than judgment. "It was Dr. Dre that called and was just giving his support," Kurupt said, "and just let me know that, you know, we all go through these things." Eminem then stepped in with a more concrete offer, arranging and funding a private stay so Kurupt could recover out of public view.

Kurupt recalled Eminem's exact offer: "I'm gonna put Kurupt with my folks... and put some money into getting him into a rehab situation," with Dr. Dre relaying a simpler message afterward: "Tell Kurupt I love him."

Kurupt said the gesture meant everything. "That was real special to me," he said. "He just came out the blue from nowhere... tell Kurupt get well, we love him. That's deep." His connection with Eminem goes back over two decades: Eminem name-checked Kurupt among hip-hop's best emcees on his 2002 hit "Till I Collapse."

Eminem has been open about his own addiction history. He nearly died from a methadone overdose in 2007, entered recovery in 2008, and marked 18 years sober in 2026; he explored the period on his 2009 album Relapse and in his 2025 documentary Stans. Kurupt, a longtime member of Tha Dogg Pound, previously disclosed that two earlier, back-to-back seizures first forced him to confront his drinking before the more serious episode that led to his coma. He is also part of an upcoming collaborative album with Rakim and Masta Killa.
