Lefty Gunplay was booked into Greene County Jail in Missouri at around 8am on Saturday on suspicion of fourth-degree assault, according to the Springfield Daily Citizen. The booking came hours after he had played Regency Live in Springfield on the Friday night, a show the venue promoted on the strength of the year he has been having.

The Springfield Police Department made the arrest and has not commented publicly on what led to it. No formal charges had been filed at the time of the report, and his status remained listed on the jail roster hours after booking. He has since been released and was reported to be travelling on to his next show, at The Royal Grove in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The timing is awkward for a rapper who has spent 2026 in the best position of his career. He won a Grammy earlier this year for his feature on Kendrick Lamar's tv off, becoming the first Latino artist to win in the Best Rap Song category, and the touring has followed from that.

It is also not his first run-in. He was arrested in Texas on multiple charges in February 2025 and held on a $500,000 bond the following month, a stretch that ran alongside the rise the Grammy win capped. A fourth-degree assault booking in Missouri is a considerably smaller matter than that on its face, but it lands on an artist whose record makes each new one heavier.

Nothing about the Springfield incident has been described publicly by police, the venue or the rapper, so what happened between the end of the show and the morning booking is unaccounted for. The absence of formal charges at the time of booking leaves open the possibility that none follow.

For now the tour is continuing. The case sits alongside a run of hip-hop legal stories MusicSuey has been following this year, including Lil Durk's request for scholars to explain drill to a jury, and it is the kind of arrest that rarely gets a public conclusion.
