The track pairs a driving house beat with a gritty dubstep breakdown, EDM.com reports.

Linney has put out TOUGH LOVE, a new single released through her own label, Siren Records, EDM.com reported on August 8. "TOUGH LOVE became a way of processing that stretch," Linney told the outlet, describing the string of professional setbacks that inspired it. The singer-songwriter, DJ and producer built the track around a commanding vocal, electro house production and choral-style ad-libs.

Midway through, the arrangement drops into a gritty dubstep halftime break before snapping back into the second chorus, trading the track's pop-house cadence for a jolt of low end. Linney also tucks in a hidden tribute during that stretch, nodding to two of her recent high-profile collaborations: her feature on Subtronics' "Friends" and Crankdat's "Movement."

Linney is part of EDM.com's Class of 2025, built on a solo run of singles including "wontletgo," "slow burn" and "The Crown." Those earlier tracks mined grief, tarot symbolism and fantasy romance for their lyrics, where TOUGH LOVE draws instead from the setbacks she weathered before writing it.

Subtronics, one of the acts Linney nodded to on the new track, released a new single of his own, "Bird Phone," around the same time.

EDM.com did not report any upcoming tour dates or further release plans tied to the single. It's the latest addition to the release calendar and our electronic coverage.
