Mariah Carey has kicked off a 25th-anniversary celebration of Glitter, her divisive 2001 soundtrack album, with a reimagined version of "Didn't Mean to Turn You On" featuring Rochelle Jordan.
The remix, produced by KLSH, marks the first time Carey and Jordan have worked together. It bridges Glitter's original R&B, funk and dance-pop sound with Jordan's own blend of electronic music and UK garage. "The Glitter Anniversary Era begins!!!" Carey wrote on social media, calling the track something "to whet your appetites while we wait for the album's release on October 30."
That October 30 date points to an expanded Digital Deluxe Edition of Glitter, arriving via Def Jam Records and UMe with 15 additional tracks pulled from Carey's personal vault, including rare and previously unreleased recordings.
The reissue also marks the album's first return to vinyl since its original 2001 release. Fans can choose a standard Midnight Purple 2LP edition or a limited deluxe version with three additional bonus tracks: "Out Here on My Own," the "Never Too Far/Hero" medley, and "Loverboy (Firecracker - Original Version)."
Glitter's reappraisal has been a long time coming. Originally released September 11, 2001, the soundtrack to Carey's musical drama was largely dismissed by critics and overshadowed commercially by that day's tragedy. Her fanbase never let it go: the #JusticeForGlitter campaign, launched by fans in 2018, pushed the then-17-year-old album to No. 1 on iTunes charts worldwide.
