Marianas Trench add a Windsor concert to a thin run of Canadian shows

Marianas Trench have put a third home-country date on the books for the coming months, adding the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor on 8 January. Exclaim reports that Fionn will open the show, and that tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster this Friday, 25 September, at 10am local time. The venue box office will also sell them on Friday, Saturday and show days from 1pm.

The addition matters because of how little else is on the calendar. Before this, the Vancouver group led by Josh Ramsay had two Canadian concerts lined up: a sold-out night at History in Ottawa next month, and a December date at Centre in the Square in Kitchener-Waterloo. For a band that spent the 2010s working arena-sized rooms across the country, three shows is a short year.

Windsor sits directly across the river from Detroit, and the Colosseum is a casino theatre rather than a hockey rink. It is the kind of room a Canadian act plays when it wants a January date that draws from two countries without committing to a full border run, and it gives the band an American audience without an American tour.

Fionn, the Vancouver sister duo of Alanna and Brianne Finn-Morris, share a home city with the headliner and have been building through festival bills rather than their own arena dates. An opening slot on a January casino show is a modest booking, and it is also the kind that puts a support act in front of a crowd that arrived for somebody else.

Canadian routing is filling in at the same cautious pace elsewhere this week.
