Jeff Tobias becomes vice president of sales at the music royalty firm Mogul

He arrives from Tone, and before that Stem and ONErpm, to sell into business managers and catalogue owners.

Jeff Tobias has been appointed vice president of sales at Mogul, taking charge of enterprise sales and the company's go to market strategy.

The customers he is being pointed at say a lot about where the business sits. Mogul works with business management firms, artist management companies, distributors, catalogue owners, royalty administrators and other organisations that handle artists, rights and royalty income at scale. That is a business to business market rather than an artist facing one, and selling into it means dealing with accountants and administrators rather than managers and A and R.

Tobias joins from Tone, where he was senior director of business development. There he worked on building the company's route to market, expanded the client base and drove revenue growth across artists, labels, business managers and other partners in the industry.

Before that he held senior commercial and artist facing roles at Stem and ONErpm, including head of artist and label relations for Nashville at Stem and head of country music at ONErpm. That is an unusually Nashville shaped resume for a rights technology hire, and it points at where a chunk of Mogul's growth is expected to come from.

Royalty administration has become one of the busier corners of the industry as catalogue investment and rights tracking turn into their own economy. Companies in that space have spent the past few years hiring commercial people out of distribution and services, which is exactly the move being made here.

The wider hiring pattern is visible elsewhere too, from UnitedMasters adding four executives across marketing, brand and commerce to K-LOVE bringing in Brian Sipe to run live events, while TikTok cut Nashville staff and closed its Music Row office.
