Ms* Gloom hands the J Is For Joon songs to seven remixers

Ms* Gloom has released J Is For Joon (RMX), a remix set built out of the mixtape she put out earlier this year. It runs to seven tracks, and none of them is new writing: she handed over the stems and let other people decide what the songs should become.

The guest list is wider than the usual label-arranged remix package. Clash names Malibu, araabMUZIK, Quiet Light, Lust For Youth and Cult Member among the contributors, and says the invitations went out to friends, peers and relative strangers alike. That mix of familiar and unfamiliar hands is the reason the seven tracks pull in such different directions.

Some of the reworks push the material onto a dancefloor. Others go the other way, into something Clash describes as closer to a headphone listen, where the vocal sits in a much quieter room than the original gave it. Getting both ends of that range out of one set of source songs is the point of the exercise.

The original J Is For Joon arrived earlier in 2026 and was the first release under the shortened name; she had previously recorded as Joon Gloom. Clash called it avant-pop songwriting wired into electronics, with a bright surface laid over material that turned out to be considerably darker underneath.

That contrast is what the remixers had to work with, and it explains why the set holds together despite the number of hands on it. A song built on a gap between how it sounds and what it says gives a remixer two separate things to pull on, and the guests here pull on different ones.

No label, physical edition or further release was announced alongside the project. Ms* Gloom put out her mixtape and its remix set inside the same calendar year, which is a fast turnaround for an artist at this stage. Anything she schedules next will show up on the release calendar.

Remix projects have become a standard way for electronic-leaning artists to keep a record alive between releases. Rochelle Jordan has been doing it at greater length with a five-EP remix series, and Deana Carter took the same route on a thirty-year-old country single with a first dance remix of Strawberry Wine.
