Club Kid, a new comedy-drama set amid New York's underground club scene and featuring a cameo from Shygirl, is heading to US cinemas on November 6 after debuting to a seven-minute standing ovation at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
The 120-minute film is written and directed by Jordan Firstman, who also stars as its central character, a "washed-up" party promoter learning to balance his nightlife lifestyle with raising the 10-year-old son he never knew he had.
Cara Delevingne plays his business partner, and Diego Calva appears as his son's social worker. The cast also includes musician cameos from Shygirl, River Moon and Saturn Risin9, set against a trailer full of neon-lit, nighttime New York imagery, from sunrise afters to sweat-soaked nightclub floors.
Firstman, making his directorial debut with the film, told Deadline that the story came out of a real breakup with a partner who was deeply embedded in Berlin's club scene. "He was in Berlin, and so I had just a lot of exposure to that scene and was just partying a lot myself," he said, describing a period where the drugs stopped hitting the way they used to.
A UK and Ireland release date has not yet been scheduled, though a spokesperson described one as "coming soon" for the electronic music-adjacent film.
