Omni mark ten years of the album Deluxe with an expanded reissue

Omni are giving Deluxe a tenth birthday. The Atlanta band's debut is being reissued as a two disc set, expanded well past the ten songs that made up the original record.

The first disc holds the album as released. The second is where the interest is: demos of all ten songs, the two singles the band put out in 2017, Fever Bass and Thesis, and two tracks that have never come out at all, Loud Talking and Coliseum. Coliseum has been shared to introduce the set.

Demos are a familiar bonus and often a redundant one, but they matter more for a band like this. Omni's records are built on interlocking guitar and bass parts with very little padding, so hearing the earlier versions shows how much of that architecture was there from the start and how much got tightened afterwards.

The two 2017 singles were always orphans. They arrived between albums and never landed on a full length, which means anyone who came to the band later has probably never heard them without going looking. Folding them into an anniversary edition is the closest thing to a proper home they will get.

Deluxe came out into a moment when post-punk was being reassembled by a wave of American bands, and Omni were among the first to make it sound wiry and dry rather than gothic. A decade later that approach has become common enough that the debut works as a marker for when the shift started.
