Punk band Otoboke Beaver apologised for hospitalising a fan with a guitar

Otoboke Beaver apologised on 11 August 2026 for an incident at a show four months earlier in which a guitar thrown into the audience put a fan in hospital.

It happened at Umeda Club Quattro in Osaka on 9 April. The band's statement explained that the guitar belonging to their guitarist Yoyoyoshie hit an audience member after being thrown into the crowd. That person went to hospital with a sprained neck and required seven stitches to the forehead, and the statement also acknowledged significant mental distress.

"We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the injured individual," the translated statement read, adding that the band takes the occurrence of the accident very seriously and offers its deepest apologies for having caused it. They also apologised for the four-month delay in addressing it publicly.

The band was specific about where responsibility sits. Otoboke Beaver, the statement said, bears full responsibility for the accident itself and for the response that followed, rather than the venue staff. They pledged to keep working with the injured person through their recovery and to prevent a repeat.

The Kyoto four-piece has been building an audience in North America over the past few years. They have opened for the Foo Fighters, curated last year's Sled Island festival, and Jack White has named Yoyoyoshie his new favourite guitarist. Their live show is the draw and the reason a thrown instrument is plausible in the first place.

They played the 17th Mosswood Meltdown in Oakland weeks before the apology, where the Los Angeles Times described a set of manic, candy-coloured fury with an inflatable beaver bouncing through the pit.
