Pedro Capo opens the album Fulanito with the single Caer y levantarse

Pedro Capo has put out Caer y levantarse, the first song from Fulanito, an album Rolling Stone en Espanol reports is set for 16 October. The title translates roughly as falling down and getting back up, and the song is exactly that: a reckoning with hard stretches, written from his own experience rather than in the abstract.

What the lyric does with the idea is slightly unusual. Rather than dwelling on the fall, Capo spends the verses recognising and valuing the tools he has built for getting through adversity, and reminding himself that however complicated bad periods are, they pass. It is a song about equipment rather than about suffering.

Fulanito is being presented as a return to roots, musical, personal and emotional, approached from a new vantage point. The occasion for it is a practical one: Capo has resettled in Puerto Rico, and the album is drawn from the experience of having been far from home and then going back.

Longing sits at the centre of the record for that reason. The songs came out of distance and return rather than out of arrival, which is a harder thing to write about, and the album title, a Spanish word for a nobody or an anonymous someone, points at a singer who has spent years being recognised everywhere but the place that formed him.

The video makes the point geographically. It was shot in the urban core of Rio Piedras in Puerto Rico and follows the spaces and moments tied to his everyday life there, which reads as a deliberate choice to film the record's argument rather than illustrate the song.

The 16 October date now sits on the release calendar with the rest of the autumn latin schedule, a season that has already produced Wisin and Ivy Queen opening a joint project with the track Hasta abajo. The homecoming framing puts Fulanito in a year when going back to the island has been a recurring theme, Bad Bunny having closed his world tour there earlier in the summer. No tour has been attached to the album.
