Slipknot confirm Sid Wilson's exit after the DJ called himself still 'from Slipknot'

The band's own statement was deleted minutes after it went up.

Slipknot confirmed in a since-deleted Instagram post on August 14 that Sid Wilson is out of the band. "Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors," the statement read, giving no further explanation for the split.

The confirmation followed weeks of contradictory signals. TMZ first reported an alleged split on July 31, and a follow-up report on August 3 claimed Wilson's treatment of his bandmates had been building as an issue for some time. Guitarist Jim Root responded on Instagram at the time, urging fans to "wait until there's more information" rather than treat the report as confirmed. Days later, at the inaugural World Scratch Invitational DJ competition in Atlantic City on August 12, Wilson still introduced himself onstage as "No. 0, from the world famous Slipknot," muddying the picture further.

Around the same time, Kelly Osbourne, Wilson's ex-fiancee and the mother of their three-year-old son, posted and then deleted a series of Instagram messages that appeared aimed at him. "Wake the fuck up take some responsibility I will not take your shit anymore! I'm done," she wrote, also asking for child support. The couple began dating in 2022, got engaged in July 2025 backstage at Black Sabbath's farewell Back To The Beginning concert in Birmingham, and reportedly called off the engagement seven months later, in March 2026.

Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998 after a fight with percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan at a show he had attended only as a spectator, becoming the band's turntablist under the designation No. 0; he added keyboards to his role from 2008 onward under his DJ alter ego, DJ Starscream. He appeared on all seven of Slipknot's major-label studio albums and was one of four members involved in the band's Look Outside Your Window side project. His exit follows a string of other departures: Craig Jones left in 2023, Chris Fehn in 2019, and founding members Joey Jordison and Paul Gray died in 2021 and 2020, respectively.

Slipknot's remaining members have not publicly addressed what prompted the split or how it affects the band's future. Their most recent album remains 2022's The End, So Far, and their last live performance came at Ohio's Inkcarceration festival in July 2025. MusicSuey follows more metal coverage.
