Snoop Dogg biopic casts Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur

Casting for the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic is underway, with actor Camron Jones joining the film as the late Tupac Shakur.

Jones' role was confirmed this week via The Hollywood Reporter. Lauren London will also join the cast as Snoop's late mother, while Algee Smith, known for Euphoria, will play Warren G, and Myles Bullock will portray Dr. Dre. Jones, whose credits include Amazon Prime's Panic and the shows grown-ish, The Purge and Shameless, joins a small group of actors who have portrayed Shakur on screen, following Marcc Rose in Straight Outta Compton and Demetrius Shipp Jr. in All Eyez on Me.

The film, titled Snoop, is set for release August 6, 2027, and stars Outer Banks actor Jonathan Daviss in the title role. Snoop Dogg has said he chose Daviss for his range as a performer. "He's the whole thing," Snoop said in a 2025 interview. "He's a dynamic actor. He's a great spirit and he's a learner. He's able to take things and make it better."

Snoop will be produced by Brian Grazer, known for 8 Mile, and directed by Craig Brewer, who previously made Hustle & Flow. The project also marks the first film under Death Row Pictures' overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment, positioning the studio to develop further projects tied to the label's catalog and history.

The casting news follows Snoop's August 2027 release date being set earlier this year, adding another entry to a growing string of hip-hop biopics dramatizing the West Coast rap scene of the 1990s, a period that has drawn renewed attention amid the ongoing murder trial connected to Shakur's 1996 killing.
