Universal Studios has set a release date for its upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic. Snoop is scheduled to open in theaters on August 6, 2027, Deadline reported, with Craig Brewer, director of Hustle & Flow and the 2011 remake of Footloose, behind the camera.
The film will feature music from Snoop Dogg's own catalogue and follows the rise of the "artist, mogul and gangsta rap icon that we know as Snoop Dogg." Johnathan Daviss, known for his role in the Netflix series Outer Banks, stars in the lead.
Snoop Dogg announced the project onstage with Daviss at Universal's CinemaCon presentation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in April, telling the audience, "After my brothers got to tell their story with Straight Outta Compton, now it's my turn." The film continues Universal's run of hip-hop biopics, following 2015's NWA story Straight Outta Compton and 2002's 8 Mile, the semi-autobiographical Eminem film.
Snoop will be the first release from Death Row Pictures, a company named for Death Row Records, the label Snoop Dogg sold to an investment group in 2022. The film is being produced by Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer alongside Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker; the Death Row roster has stayed active this year, with artists like October London putting out new music on the label.
No trailer or additional casting has been announced beyond Daviss in the lead role, and Universal has not said whether Snoop Dogg himself will make a cameo appearance in the film.
