Soccer Mommy has marked the 10th anniversary of For Young Hearts with a deluxe reissue, plus a guest appearance onstage with American Football in Nashville. Sophie Allison released the original EP back in 2016 as a young Bandcamp-native songwriter, and it became the breakout release that landed her a spot on Stereogum's 2016 Best New Bands list, alongside acts like Japanese Breakfast, Mannequin Pussy, Moses Sumney, Noname, Pinegrove and Show Me The Body.
Some longtime fans consider For Young Hearts an even earlier chapter than that, pointing to older, since-vanished Bandcamp collections, Songs For The Recently Sad and the two-part Songs From My Bedroom, that predate it. Whichever release counts as the true starting point, For Young Hearts is the one that carried Soccer Mommy from a bedroom project into wider notice, and the deluxe edition gives that early work a proper anniversary treatment.
The American Football collaboration ties Allison to a band whose own slow-building influence on emo and indie has run in parallel with her career. Joining them onstage in Nashville puts her alongside a group that helped shape the sound she grew up on, and one that has recently announced its own return to touring in Argentina.
No further dates around the anniversary release have been announced. For now, the deluxe For Young Hearts and the one-off Nashville appearance stand as the full extent of the celebration.
