Solange and Summer Walker post a band rehearsal clip and say nothing else

Solange posted a short video of herself playing guitar and singing with Summer Walker, captioned as a first band rehearsal with a note that the two of them were a bit nervous. That is the entire event, and it was enough to set off a weekend of speculation about a project neither of them has confirmed exists.

The comments added one detail worth having. Solange said she had got Summer Walker out of guitar retirement, and Walker replied, "Anything for you, Darling," which at least establishes that the two are working together rather than that a clip was pulled from an old session.

What makes a rehearsal clip newsworthy is the length of the silence around it. Solange's last album, When I Get Home, came out in 2019 with contributions from Pharrell, Tyler, The Creator and Playboi Carti, and there has been no full follow-up in the seven years since.

Her work has not stopped, it has moved. Through her agency Saint Heron she has spent recent years in design, publishing and commissioned art, releasing music intermittently and teasing more of it without committing to a schedule, which is roughly the position this clip leaves her in again.

None of which makes this an announcement. There is no title, no label, no date and no confirmation that a band exists beyond one rehearsal, and both artists have said nothing further. It belongs on the same shelf as other rnb-soul and rock hints this year that have yet to turn into anything, among them Lindsey Buckingham's suggestion of a 2027 collaboration with Stevie Nicks.
