Summer Sonic festival teases a Radiohead return to Tokyo for 2027

Radiohead may be heading back to Tokyo's Summer Sonic festival in 2027. During this year's Tokyo edition of the festival, video screens showed a teaser featuring live concert footage of the band that ended with an all-caps "TOKYO 2027," setting off speculation among fans watching in the crowd.

The band returned to the stage in late 2025 for the first time in seven years, playing 20 arena shows broken into four-night residencies across five European cities, including four nights at London's O2 that broke the venue's attendance record, previously held by Metallica. Guitarist Ed O'Brien later confirmed plans to repeat that touring format going forward, saying the band intends to play a different continent each year, 20 shows and no more.

O'Brien has since framed the 20-show figure as closer to a hard ceiling than a target, telling fans the songs are "too powerful" to play much more than that in a single year without draining the band. He also told NME the group has "not even talked about another record" yet, pushing back on assumptions that a new Radiohead album is already in progress.

Radiohead has history at Summer Sonic, having headlined the festival in both 2003 and 2016, with Thom Yorke also playing a festival-sponsored club show there in 2015. The tease comes as O'Brien promotes his own solo album, Blue Morpho, and continues the Radiohead soundtrack sync with the video game Stage, one of several ways the band has stayed visible during its long stretch off the road.
