Townies, the Los Angeles-via-Boston indie band, released a new song called "Wednesday" on August 13, a direct response to the band Wednesday's own song "Townies," Stereogum reported. Wednesday's "Townies" comes from the band's 2025 album Bleeds, and Stereogum called it the best song of 2025.
Shortly after Bleeds came out, Townies tweeted, "Wait til they hear Wednesday by Townies," promising a response track built around the same bit. "Wednesday" finally delivers on that promise, closing the loop between the two bands' matching song titles about one another.
The back-and-forth between the two bands has played out publicly on social media over the better part of a year, turning what began as a joke into an actual pair of songs that share titles and, now, a direct lyrical connection. Stereogum's report treated the release as the punchline to a bit that had been building since Bleeds first arrived.
With "Wednesday" now out and logged on the release calendar, it remains to be seen whether the other band will respond in kind, extending a cross-band exchange that has already produced two songs built entirely around each other's names.
