Trentemøller sets a self-titled album with vocals on every track

Trentemøller has announced a self-titled album for 13 November through his own In My Room label, and it is the first record the Copenhagen producer has made with a voice on every track.

The singers rotate through it. Anika, Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes, Midwife, Tan Cologne and Emma Acs all appear, alongside Jonas Bjerre of Mew, and Anders Trentemøller has described the shift as treating the vocals as an extra instrument to play with rather than a topline dropped onto a finished track.

Lead single Terrified features Bjerre, who also made the animated video that goes with it. Trentemøller called it probably the poppiest song on the album, which is a relative judgement from someone who has spent two decades moving through glitch, downtempo, darkwave, dream-pop and synthwave and has lately been pushing hard into shoegaze.

None of the vocalists met him in a studio. Parts were exchanged remotely, which he says was the point. "I knew early on exactly who I wanted singing on these songs, people I deeply respect and could already hear in my music," he said, adding that he is shy enough that the distance gave the singers privacy to open up.

His account of the edit is less gentle. He describes pushing every element further in its own direction and cutting anything that did not give him a feeling of freedom, wanderlust, sorrow or love, which is how a guest-heavy record ends up at ten tracks.

Those ten run Swerve, Terrified, Visceral, Johnny Boy, Halved, Your Love Walks Alone, To Mist, Coyote, Crash and White Hallways.

European tour dates follow in spring 2027, including a London show at the Electric Ballroom on 11 March, and he plans to play the album start to finish for the first time in his career. The record files under electronic and rock, and its date is logged on the release calendar.
